Propane

Rodie’s Feed & Pet Supply maintains a safe, modern dispensing station for filling customers’ propane cylinders. All Sales Associates have been certified by Amerigas Propane to ensure safe filling procedures.
PROPANE FACTS
Propane is a safe, convenient and economical fuel for many applications such as heating, cooking, camping and backyard BBQ grills. It is a colorless and odorless gas. Propane liquid stored in containers at ambient temperatures will begin to boil off and pressurize the vapor space of the container. This vapor is what is used in heating and cooking applications. This is also why it is referred to as Liquified Propane Gas (LPG).
Since it is odorless and colorless in its natural state and to increase the likelihood that a leak will be detected, an odorant (usually sulfur based) is added to the gas at the time of production. You should learn to recognize the odor of propane and always be sensitive to the slightest gas smell.
Liquid propane will expand rapidly when heat is added to it. To allow for this expansion propane containers are typically filled to only 80% of their capacity. Propane cylinders manufactured today have an Overfill Prevention Device (OPD) to prevent filling more than 80% of capacity. Law today prohibits filling of cylinders without this device.
